How To Bring The Best Out Of Your LED Screen

Most people have the false impression that LED Screen is similar to LCD TV they are using at home, that it will be trouble
free and maintaining in perfect performance for the next 5 years. Wrong !!

Please allow us to explain:

1) LED Lamp and its behaviour

• The most important component in a LED Screen is the LED Lamp which forms each pixel on the screen
• There are 3 colours in each pixel, Red, Green and Blue, so there are 3 LEDs forming 1 pixel
• LED brightness will slowly decay (getting dimmer) over time
• LED is manufactured from Silicon, like Micro Chip, and its physically impossible to make each to have the same
  decaying rate.
• The difference in the decay rate depends very much to the quality of the LED Lamp. The better-quality LED Lamp
  will have smaller decaying rate between them, conversely, the poor-quality LED will have a large decaying rate
  difference.

2) LED Screen and how its performance deteriorates

• For a new LED Screen, the manufacturer can tune it so that all the LED Lamp are the same brightness, hence the
  screen will have perfectly uniform brightness and the display will look great.
• However, when you start using it the brightness of each LED will start to decay. As each LED have a different
  decaying rate, the brightness between all the LED on the screen will no longer be the same over time.
• The screen’s brightness uniformity will deteriorate and will start to be noticeable from 2nd year onwards. It will get
  worse over time.
• The better the quality of LED Lamp you use, the longer it will be before you will start seeing the brightness
  uniformity issues (see sample photo)

• A common problem you will face is the LED Screen’s module failing. You will need to replace it with a spare Module to fix the problem. The side effect with this is that the spare Module is likely to be new or used much less than the Screen, so its brightness will be much higher than the one it replaced. You will now have a “bright box” in the middle of your screen.
• The more Module you replace, the more “bright box” you will have on your screen. This will make your screen’s brightness uniformity much worst and the display will look horrible (see sample below)

3) LED Screen is not the same as LCD Screen (TV used at home)

• LCD Screen is well established and is manufactured in huge quality. Hence, its reliability is exceptional and will not give the user much problem throughout the life of the product. However, LED Screen is a much newer technology, it’s made per order and with a much lower volume. The quality and reliability are much poorer in comparison, hence it will breakdown more frequently. For the Outdoor LED Screen, due to the much harsher operating condition, the failure rate is even higher.
• You will require to service your LED Screen more frequently to keep it working normally.
